Name revealed in Read Center death

Matthew Erickson, an 18-year-old freshman from Valparaiso, died in his room in Read Center on Wednesday night, according to a release from Provost and Executive Vice President Karen Hanson and Dean of Students Harold “Pete” Goldsmith.

Big Ten keeps to its roots in face of changes

The Big Ten is the oldest Division I college athletic conference. Only two universities, Penn State and University of Nebraska, have been added to the conference in the last 57 years, and nine of the Big Ten’s 12 schools joined the conference before World War I. But in the last four years, the Big Ten made two major changes to keep up with the times.

The importance of history is often overstated yet underappreciated. Unless you are affiliated with IU’s cross country program. It has been 20 years since its last Big Ten title and 69 years since its last national championship, but don’t let the large numbers fool you. IU’s cross country team is steeped in tradition, dating back to the early 20th century.

Indiana voter turnout rates low for 2010 election

A majority of Indiana voters did not turn out to vote in the 2010 Congressional election, new data from the U.S. Census Bureau revealed. A significantly smaller percentage of people chose to vote in Indiana than they did in other states.

The land of pasta, pizza and wine is home to a lesser-known invention that may overshadow the aforementioned three: Nutella. The delicious almond, hazelnut and chocolate spread invented by the Ferrero family has been one of the best-selling condiments in Italy since its release in the 1960s. There are even shops called Nutellerias that feature a full menu of items with the chocolate spread as the main ingredient.

Brothers to play Bishop

They’ve been lauded left and right, coast to coast and by both the Seattle Times and the New York Times. They were featured on NPR in June. They’ve traveled from state to state since their tour began last week, and Friday they’ll drop into Bloomington. At 8 p.m., The Wood Brothers will bring their roots-oriented, blues and folk-style music to The Bishop.

University's reputation brings Jon Stewart to Bloomington

Jon Stewart is known for his witty political humor, down-to-earth discourse and honest scrutiny of the American media.On Friday, Stewart is bringing his tongue-in-cheek humor and “everyman” delivery style to the IU Auditorium, one of the biggest “gets” for the auditorium this year. IU is a giant hub for Stewart’s key demographic because of his popularity among viewers under 30.
