Former IU diver, Olympic medalist dies at 43

IU diving legend Mark Lenzi has died at the age of 43. A 1992 Olympic Gold Medalist in the 3-meter, Lenzi was hospitalized in critical condition March 28 for fainting spells and a dangerously low blood pressure of 78/48, according to Fredericksburg.com. He was unable to survive and passed away Monday morning.

Students to support TOMS charity event

Tomorrow, a group of students might bare more skin than usual while on campus. April 10 is “One Day Without Shoes,” an international event in which people around the world are encouraged to leave their shoes at home to bring awareness to children who go without them.

Along a wall, there are framed photos of Fiji brothers holding up the Borg-Warner Trophy after winning the race in 1956, 1965, 1967, 1975, 1987 and 1995. There’s one empty frame on the wall with a piece of paper taped up that reads, “RESERVED FOR 2012.”

Counterprotesters confront lone white supremacist at rally

Thomas Buhls, the only participant in Saturday’s Confederate Heritage Rally, stood on the Monroe County Courthouse Square and wielded a cardboard sign reading, “Celebrate your white heritage. Be proud of your white identity.” A mob of counter-protesters surrounded Buhls, chanting, “Fascist scumbag, go home. Bloomington doesn’t want you. Get the fuck out of our town.”

Hoosiers split matches against ranked Iowa, Nebraska

For the second straight weekend, No. 45 Indiana split two matches against ranked competition at home. The Hoosiers started the weekend taking on No. 72 Iowa. IU denied Iowa its first road win of the season, as it defeated the Hawkeyes 6-1.

In three games, the Hoosiers finished 2-1 against the Boilermakers who — prior to this weekend — were undefeated in Big Ten play.

In-state battle with Butler ends in scoreless tie

After its first two games resulted in a combined 13 goals, the IU men’s soccer team played in-state rival Butler to a 0-0 tie after 90 minutes of play Friday night on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.

The sixth Bloomington Handmade Market brought 46 vendors to the Bloomington Convention Center on Saturday for a collection of handcrafted art, crafts and functional objects.

Man arrested after girlfriend allegedly stabbed him

Bloomington police were called to IU Health Bloomington Hospital after a man told hospital staff his girlfriend, 26, had stabbed his left leg with a knife in the 3000 block of South Walnut Street, Bloomington Police Department Lt. Bill Parker said.

Election Board sets satellite voting

Early voting begins today for residents unable to vote on primary Election Day, May 8. The polling site in the Curry Building at 214 W. Seventh St. will be open from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. The Monroe County Election Board also voted to allow satellite voting during the upcoming election, which will provide five additional voting locations throughout Monroe County during the two weeks before the primary election.
