BCBG, Perry Ellis christen New York Fashion Week runways

NEW YORK -- New York Fashion Week opened with more substance than style Friday. Instead of Kenneth Cole leading the seasonal previews as he usually does with his celebrity-packed show, menswear brands John Bartlett and Perry Ellis were the first to present their spring 2007 clothes in quiet, almost subdued runway shows, followed by BCBG Max Azria, which dotted its front row with starlets, including Carmen Electra and Kelly Rowland.

Historic site celebrates Hoosier artist

Sushi 101

Sophomore Craig Shank did not feel confident the first time he tried sushi. Intimidation is a common among students who have never tried sushi before, but experts and students alike say that with a little bit of daring and some help from friends, learning to eat sushi can be fun and easy.

Rocky statue returned to Philadelphia Museum

PHILADELPHIA - Rocky Balboa -- or more specifically, a statue of the Hollywood palooka, boxing gloves raised in triumph -- is being restored to a spot outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the winner by a split decision in a bout between fine art and pop culture.

Museum: art, coffee nights

Coffee, art and music come together for the first three Thursday evenings in September as the IU Art Museum introduces its "Coffeehouse Nights at the Art Museum." From 7-9 p.m. Sept. 7, 14 and 21, guests can stroll through a featured gallery enjoy live music related to the evening's theme - from Turkish melodies to coffeehouse jazz to African beats.

'Plucky' harpist has won competitions worldwide

Fourteen-year-old Jane Yoon strode confidently across the stage at the 2001 USA International Harp Competition in her yellow silk dress. She was not competing; however, she was a guest performer. The previous year she won the Japanese International Harp Competition in Tokyo, making her the youngest participant and the only Korean to win. She had also begun her studies under Susann MacDonald at IU.

'Four Square' displays angles of graphic design

Each square is made up of four sides. The four professors of graphic design in IU's Hope School of Fine Arts have collaborated in a new exhibit entitled "Four Square" that will have its opening reception 7-9 p.m. tomorrow at the SoFA gallery.

Discounted art museum gifts on sale this week

Auditorium to hold training session for student ushers

With approximately 800 volunteers in its ranks, the IU Auditorium relies on students and community members to supply its corps of ushers, who not only supervise crowd control but are also encouraged to make a connection with guests on the relatively short journey from the entrance to their seats, according to the IU Auditorium's Web site.
