Trio of standout seniors plays last home game in win

Last night's game against Minnesota was the final opportunity for IU fans to erupt in cheers after a three-pointer from guards Tom Coverdale and Kyle Hornsby, and the last time they could yell "Newwwt" after forward Jeff Newton blocked a shot or threw down a dunk.

Senior Nick Evans' two-run double clinched an undefeated road trip as the IU baseball team continued its hot start with a 5-3 win Monday morning over Boston College in Bradenton, Fla. The Hoosiers, 3-0, won their third game in four days after Sunday's contest against Holy Cross was cancelled because of rain.

Team finishes fifth in conference meet

The men's indoor track and field team competed in the Big Ten Championship this past weekend, placing fifth in team competition against a tough field. Wisconsin won a tight team race for the second year in a row, defeating Minnesota by only two points. Wisconsin was able to clinch the team championship thanks to a strong group of distance runners, while Minnesota relied on depth and Purdue used a 1-2-3-4 finish in the 60 to finish third place.

Five seniors win final game in Assembly Hall

The seniors on the IU women's basketball team just wouldn't give up Sunday in their final home game at Assembly Hall. Their persistence and enthusiasm on the court helped them gain their final victory at home in an overtime win against Illinois that ended 85-82. The Hoosiers now go into the Big Ten Tournament 12-14, 5-11 in the Big Ten, while Illinois fell to 17-10, 9-7 in the Big Ten.

Their last dance

When Tom Coverdale, Kyle Hornsby and Jeff Newton each arrived as freshman in Bloomington ready to make an impact on the IU men's basketball team. Throughout their time as Hoosiers, the men have experienced the striking low of losing a coach and the ultimate high of making it to the NCAA title game. Not to mention all the trying and exciting games smashed in between. Tonight their eventful careers in Bloomington come to an end as they will take the floor of Assembly Hall one last time when IU faces the Minnesota Golden Gophers at 7 p.m. The game is scheduled to air on ESPN.

Baseball team shines in Florida Flort

The IU baseball team finally got its season underway Friday when they traveled to Florida, away from the wintry weather that plagued and ultimately canceled its previous two tournaments.

By halftime of Saturday night's game against the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Hoosiers had secured a 15 point lead and headed into the locker room looking poised to grab a much needed win. But it would not be that simple. Iowa began the second half in attack mode and suddenly that 15 point lead dissipated into a 10 point lead … then a five point lead … then it was tied.

Fouls, cold second half does in IU

WEST LAFAYETTE -- Mackey Arena was a sea of gold and black with the occasional spec of cream and crimson. In front of a crowd of 9,819, the IU women's basketball team (11-14, 4-11 Big Ten) fell to Purdue (22-5, 11-4) for the second time this year. While the last meeting at the RCA Dome left the Hoosiers with only a two-point loss, this contest had Purdue the victors 74-48. Sophomore guard/forward Jenny DeMuth said it was different playing at Purdue instead of a neutral location, but that it shouldn't make a difference in how the team played. "Here it was a lot louder," DeMuth said. "Here everything is on top of you. You feel enclosed, but that doesn't really make a difference. You have to go out there and do what you have to do."

Water polo hosts meet

This weekend the IU women's water polo team will play in its only home games as it hosts the Indiana Invitational Saturday and Sunday. The Hoosiers will kick off the Invitational by playing No. 12 Hartwick. Earlier this year at the Michigan Invitational the Hoosiers beat Hartwick 10-8 as senior two-meter Kristin Stanford scored four goals. In the rematch, Stanford said she hopes she can have another good performance to lead IU to victory.
