We're all college students, which means one thing; we love free stuff. We enjoy going to different events around campus -- not to attend them but, to get the free things available at them. Instead of going after the normal stuff like pizza and cookies, we should go after the motherload.

Gay marriage a civil right

And it looks as if the day has almost arrived. On Tuesday, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled 4-3, striking down the state's ban on same-sex marriages. And what a step it was. Taking the reigns away from the state of Vermont, who in 1999 allowed for same-sex "civil unions," the state of Massachusetts ruled that such a title "falls short of marriage."

Best Buy opens in Bloomington

Electronic super store Best Buy will open its 18th Indiana location in Bloomington Friday. The opening will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony along with a check presentation of $10,000 from Best Buy to the Monroe County United Way. "We are glad to be opening our doors to Bloomington," said Mendi Boss, Bloomington Best Buy's General Manager. "We plan to give our customers the ultimate shopping experience." The opening of Best Buy could help Bloomington's economy by providing more than 100 jobs, but it will also provide to the community. The money given to the Monroe County United Way will go to a campaign supporting children's issues.

Community discusses gay marriage case

Members of the IU community are discussing yet another controversial issue after the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled against a ban on same-sex marriage Tuesday. The ruling could make Massachusetts the first state in the U.S. to possibly legalize same-sex marriage.

Michael Jackson faces arrest on counts of child molestation

Military pounds Iraqi targets with 1-ton bombs

Bush urges Europe to help Iraq

Flying high

With grace, agility and style, Bernadette Pace glides gently through the air. She pulls herself into splits over the trapeze bar and dangles upside down before reaching out her hands in order to be caught. At 60 years old, this trapeze artist lives for free-falling. Set in the deep woods of her backyard, Pace practices her art on a genuine highflying trapeze with her local group, the High Flyers. She fell in love with the trapeze in the Denver YMCA in 1970 and has been perfecting her tricks ever since. In 1983, she relocated to Bloomington and knew she could not live without continuing her passion. "I was so addicted," Pace said. "I knew I'd just die if I didn't have one."

E-mail memo prompted by IUPUI request

IU scientists nab fruit fly grant

Researchers at IU-Bloomington, Harvard University, University of California at Berkeley and Cambridge University will receive approximately $20 million from the National Institute of Health in continued funding for their fruit fly database. Located in Bloomington, FlyBase, the most comprehensive database of Drosophila (fruit fly) information available to scientists, will receive around $3 million of the money.

The organization works to alleviate graduate employee concerns, including receiving better benefits, more equitable working conditions and a stronger voice for members.
