Clerk: Student voter turnout ‘typically very, very low’

Voting inspectors said districts that primarily consist of students had low voter turn-out in Tuesday’s municipal election. At the Teter Quad polling facility, voting inspector Tom Duffy said the turnout was “very light.” Duffy said by 3:30 p.m. the voter turnout was “so light we can count ‘em on two hands.”

Provost lays out possible smoking ban exceptions

The use of all tobacco products will be prohibited on University property starting Jan. 1, but Provost Karen Hanson might grant exceptions to the policy. “You can’t make addicted smokers cease addiction overnight,” Hanson said. The policy states exceptions might be granted by the provost for the use of tobacco products in areas near resident facilities and the Indiana Memorial Union.

IU’s emergency system in place

Students, staff and faculty can now sign up for the campus-wide emergency alert system on OneStart. IU officials announced the OneStart program Wednesday, and are encouraging everyone on campus to sign up.
