Concert brings chance to ‘Get Low’

Loud music, boisterous parties and countless events will permeate the IU campus this week, and now a new event has been added to the schedule. The Ying Yang Twins will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity.

Stores work to stop new gift card scam

The balance on people’s next gift card could read $0 before it even reaches their hands. The National Retail Federation, the world’s largest retail trade association, recently brought attention to a new gift card scam and detailed how consumers could lose money from gift cards if criminals steal the card numbers from the back of the card.

FreeRice.com builds vocabulary, feeds hungry around the world

With only a few minutes and 10 correctly answered vocabulary questions, 200 grains of rice could be donated to the United Nations World Food Programme. FreeRice.com, created by Bloomington programmer John Breen as a sister site to his Web site Poverty.com, will donate 20 grains of rice for every correctly answered vocabulary question.

Changing 100 lives in 100 minutes

On Wednesday, a nationwide promotional event will take place at 100 eye-care offices around the country for 100 minutes. “Changing 100 Lives in 100 Minutes” is sponsored by Bausch & Lomb, the manufacturers of the crystalens needed for the cataract correction surgeries the 100 patients will receive.

“Caffeine can be classified as a drug because it is toxic.”

Pitfalls of an energy boost

A typical energy drink such as Red Bull has about 76 milligrams of caffeine, and local dieticians say this popular stimulant is too easy to abuse. Caffeine is being added to more products, and dieticians say the amount some people are consuming is excessive and could cause health problems.

IU senior transfer wins heptathlon in Texas Relays

It didn’t take long for senior Abbie Stechschulte to make her mark on IU. Stechschulte, who suited up for the Hoosiers for the first time in competition, was the collegiate heptathlon champion in the 81st running of the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays this past weekend.

Hoosiers turn to ‘Big Play Ray’

Campaign gets greeks to ‘Go Green’

The greek system is starting to think green. “Think green” are the two words Alpha Chi Omega sophomore Brittney Banks and Phi Mu sophomore Clare Crosh hope their fellow greeks keep in mind when throwing trash away. Banks and Crosh have created a new organization in the greek system called “Greeks Go Green.”

Students celebrate 3rd annual Korean Night

A diverse crowd of more than 200 people took over the McNutt Residence Center for Korean Night on Friday. “Korean Night is about sharing our culture with other people at IU who might be interested or just simply curious,” said Jung Eun Yun, secretary of the Korean Student Association.

Architects seek students’ opinions on campus buildings

Students got to “Post-it” their thoughts last week. SmithGroup and JJR are both Michigan-based architectural firms that were stationed last week in Wright Food Court looking for students to write their opinions on Post-it notes regarding campus buildings.
