Students distracted by construction

·

Within the cordoned fence that rings the construction site of Simon Hall near Third Street, construction workers can be seen and heard excavating in preparation for laying the foundation for the new building. In nearby classrooms, instructors and students have expressed concern at the level of noise eminating from the site. Yamina Mermer, an Arabic language instructor, teaches a class on the first floor of Ballantine Hall, which is adjacent to the construction site.

Not just for fun

·

The parking lot west of Memorial Stadium, usually vacant in the summer months, has been transformed into a colorful array of sights, sounds and tastes this week. The 46th annual Fun Frolic has come to Bloomington. IU students and Bloomington residents have been enjoying the festival since Friday. Traditional carnival activities are offered, including rides, games and food.

A WRITER'S LIFE

·

Bloomington may have a bumping music scene, but it also hosts a lively writing community driven by academia and plenty of creative people willing to write down their thoughts through various facets of literati.

Beach Boys comp a coup

·

Assembling and releasing a solid compilation disc for a band that's had dozens over the course of its 40-plus year career is no easy task.

FAMILYSEUSS

·

If the creatures from a psychedelic-colored Dr. Seuss book jumped off its pages and picked up a fiddle, guitar, bass, banjo and drums, they would call themselves the Snake Oil Medicine Show.

What's all the 'Fuss?'

·

I believe if bands could pro-create, the Killers would be the love child of Interpol and Hot Hot Heat, who were listening to New Order during courtship.
