IU students react to marriage bans

Junior Derrick English is angry. He's angry voters in his home state of North Dakota overwhelmingly passed an amendment to their state constitution Nov. 2 banning both same-sex marriage and any legal recognition of same-sex relationships, such as civil unions. Bloomington Playwrights Project stuffs the ballot box On the tails of the national election, The Bloomington Playwrights Project, a nonprofit theater in downtown Bloomington, brings its seasonal fund raiser "Winter Ballot Box Blitz." During the event, the BPP's ensemble of artists will perform 30 ultra-short original plays. "Penis Dialogues," Bob Risher's response to the "Vagina Monologues," will be one of the plays performed.

The times they aren't a-changin'

Bob Dylan once sang that "the times they are a-changin'," and a lot of people stood up and tried to stop it. My aunt's high school went so far as to ban that very song from its hallways. Bush names new Attorney General

WASHINGTON -- President George W. Bush has chosen White House counsel Alberto Gonzales, a Texas confidant and the most prominent Hispanic in the administration, to succeed Attorney General John Ashcroft, sources close to the White House said Wednesday. Ashcroft announced his resignation Tuesday, along with Commerce Secretary Don Evans, friend of the president's from Texas.

Schulte Corporation to bring more than 200 new jobs to the Bloomington area

The City of Bloomington will likely approve $828,000 in tax abatements for Bloomington's Schulte Corporation based the overwhelming support from the City Council members. The abatements are part of a $5 million incentive by the city and state. Schulte is a family-owned business which has been manufacturing home storage and organizational products in Bloomington since 1986. The corporation has been growing rapidly and plans to add 223 new jobs during the next five years.
