Prison guards face more battery charges CARLISLE, Ind. -- Two prison guards who were charged with beating a handcuffed prisoner have now been charged with attacking a second inmate. Wabash Valley Correctional Facility guards Johnnie Murphy, 42, of Sullivan, Ind., and Thomas Troy Matney, 33, of Jasonville, Ind.,, were charged in October with misdemeanor battery resulting in bodily injury for a June 24 attack against Jermarcus Grandberry, authorities said.

Home Depot reports sales increases in third quarter ATLANTA -- The Home Depot Inc., the nation's largest home improvement store chain, reported a nearly 15 percent jump in third-quarter earnings on strong sales, particularly at stores open at least a year.

Charges filed in shooting battle near Gary

GARY -- Prosecutors filed criminal charges against two men Wednesday for their part in a gun battle that wounded a woman outside an elementary school. Eugene E. Anderson, 28, of Merrillville, Ind., and Charles B. Kidd, 22, of Gary, were charged with attempted murder, battery, attempted battery and criminal recklessness, the Lake County Prosecutor's office said. Anderson was being held without bond Wednesday in the Gary lockup.

Abercrombie to pay $50M to settle discrimination suit

LOS ANGELES -- Abercrombie & Fitch has agreed to pay $50 million to settle a lawsuit that accused the clothing-store chain of promoting whites over minorities and cultivating a virtually all-white image in its catalogs and elsewhere.

Group kidnaps 31 Iraqi police officers
