GARY -- Prosecutors filed criminal charges against two men Wednesday for their part in a gun battle that wounded a woman outside an elementary school.\nEugene E. Anderson, 28, of Merrillville, Ind., and Charles B. Kidd, 22, of Gary, were charged with attempted murder, battery, attempted battery and criminal recklessness, the Lake County Prosecutor's office said.\nAnderson was being held without bond Wednesday in the Gary lockup. Authorities at the lockup and the Lake County Jail said Kidd was not in custody.\nParents were waiting to pick up children at Brunswick Elementary School on Monday when two cars exchanged gunfire in a street nearby. One of the parents, Takeysha Jones, 28, was struck by a bullet and was treated at a local hospital.\nPolice responding to the shooting stopped a car driven by Anderson, and witnesses identified it as one of the vehicles involved in the gun battle, according to a probable cause affidavit filed Wednesday in Lake Superior Court.\nOfficers found a .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun in the car, Gary police detective Lorenzo Davis said in the affidavit.\nAnderson allegedly told police that he and Kidd had been shooting back at the occupants of a van who had shot at them first.
