Bowl for Kids' Sake ready to roll this Saturday, Sunday

This weekend IU students and Bloomington citizens will put on their bowling shoes to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Indiana. The annual Bowl For Kids' Sake will occur Saturday and Sunday at Suburban Lanes. The community at large will have a chance to raise money for the foundation Saturday, and the IU student population will have a crack at it Sunday.

Thumbs down, filibustering

At is that time in a president's term to appoint judicial nominees. And, like always, the opposing party is planning on filibustering these candidates. This goes on every time a president submits judicial nominees. This happens so often, I am surprised our judicial system can even run properly.

Soup Bowl tradition helps local charities feed hungry

Hundreds of ceramic bowls lined the tables of the Bloomington Convention Center Sunday night. Some had intricate shapes and forms, while others barely held their contents. Some were made by children and others were designed by professionals. The bowls were not on display though; each was donated to benefit the area's hungry.

Graduate extends bond past graduation

J. Thomas Forbes believes many things have shaped him throughout his life. But he says his experiences at IU form the foundation of who he is today. Forbes, IU's executive director of state relations, graduated from IU with a bachelor's degree in political science in 1990. As an undergraduate, he served as student body president, a position that first exposed him to political leadership and university government.

Ban may end driving diversion

It's nearly as dangerous as driving while intoxicated, but many students do it often when they get behind the wheel. According to a recent study by Dong-Chul Seo, a lecturer in the department of Applied Health Science, talking on cell phones while driving is much more of a safety risk than previously thought.
