IUSA 2005 ELECTIONS

College

College supports more on-campus parking, drinking regulations Q: How are you going to raise the communication between the administration and students? Communication with students will be increased by first presenting a formal plan of what and by when the administration seeks to accomplish and then follow up with monthly reports. Q: Should there by more parking on campus? Please explain why or why not and your plans regarding this issue. Without a doubt there should be more parking on campus. As where having a car on campus was not so much the life of our parents and grandparents, we as a generation are much more attached to our cars, and if the University can spend money on other projects which it feels will benefit students; certainly the university can accommodate students by enlarging the current parking capacity. Our plan is to begin the process to construct new parking facilities. Q: What is your party doing to increase voter turnout? We as a party are looking forward to a fun and exciting week filled with many activities that will increase voter turnout. Our ultimate goal is to seek traditionally low voter pools and see that their voices and concerns as students are heard. Kirkwood

Kirkwood wants to lobby for student issues, enable 'Hoosier Hurry' Q: What is your relationship with the administration right now? How are you going to improve it? Kirkwood is going to improve the relationship between IUSA and the administration by coming into office and within the first month proving that we will lobby for the students with a professional and serious attitude. Q: How are you going to raise the communication between the administration and students? We are going to lobby for the issues that pertain to all students and have an "open door" policy where any student can talk to an IUSA executive about any issue on campus. Q: Should there by more parking on campus? Please explain why or why not and your plans regarding this issue. We have met with Parking Operations and they are doing a great job of planning to build three new parking garages over the next five years. Kirkwood promises to hold them to this plan. Kirkwood also plans to implement the "Hoosier Hurry" Pass. This device is similar to the EZ Pass system seen in tolls around the country. This will alleviate traffic jams and wasted time at campus lots and garages. An added bonus to this system is that students will be able to bill parking charges to the bursar and avoid cash transactions. Q: What is your party doing to increase voter turnout? Kirkwood strives to raise IUSA awareness and voter turnout by working non-stop to inform students of our platform issues. As you can see around campus, Kirkwood is the most visible ticket and working the hardest to truly improve the collegiate atmosphere in Bloomington. Connect
[www.connectiusa.com]
Connect wants to establish student advisory councils, more parking Q: What is your relationship wtih the administration right now? How are you going to improve it? As the president of RHA, I maintain a variety of the same contacts that the current IUSA president does, including Dean of Students Dick McKaig and IUB Interim Chancellor Ken Gros Louis. It's also important to note that in the contstruction of our platform, we discussed ideas with IU officials relevant to each issue to ensure not only that each item was feasible, but that we had a roadmap for how to reach the goal. Q: How are you going to raise the communication between the administration and students? I think the creation of our student advisory councils relevant to areas of student life are extremely important to empowering students who are concerned to be able to directly voice their opinions. We look forward to making this the first step in expanding the representation of students horizontally; IUSA shouldn't be a buffer -- it should create more direct access to IU's faculty and staff. Q: Should there by more parking on campus? Please explain why or why not and your plans regarding this issue. Connect will ensure the construction of two more parking garages on campus, and we're big advocates of that -- the majority of students want to be able to drive their cars close by so they don't have to hang out in the Union all day in between class periods. We also are planning a complete overhaul of the campus bus system, as advocated by several IU officials and found to be more than feasible. We're simply going to look at where students feasibly want a bus to pick them up, drop them off, and then spread the buses evenly over each of these locations. Q: What is your party doing to increase voter turnout? If you look at our Web site, http://connectiusa.com, you'll see we have a strong policy of not just voting for us, but voting -- period. Connect feels that in order to be truly representative, it's important for students to cast their vote to ensure that the best ticket really will win. It's been too long that IUSA elections have been won off of who has the most friends. Vote For Pedro
[www.canpedrowin.com]
Vote for Pedro does not want to make 'a bunch of baloney promises' Q: What is your relationship with the administration right now? How are you going to improve it? Through involvement in other groups, we have a working relationship with administrators. We really aren't looking for anything more serious. And if you're wondering, none of us is a relative of the governor or a division one basketball player. But, through the basic skill of not being pretend politicians, our legitimacy with the administration will grow just fine, thanks. Q: How are you going to raise the communication between the administration and students? It really isn't bad right now. You can go talk to pretty much any administrator you want, if you just make an appointment. The next student government should focus on not wasting the legitimacy IUSA has now by making a bunch of baloney promises and political accusations. We need to make the community and administration respect us, so we can level with them. Game playing, like the other guys are pros at, does nothing for anybody ... unless it's a tetherball tournament next Tuesday in Dunn Meadow. Q: Should there by more parking on campus? Please explain why or why not and your plans regarding this issue. Seriously? Umm. . .of course. But where are we going to put it? Pave the arboretum? Spend $150 million on a new parking garage, or $400 million on three? (you know that $ comes from parking tickets, right?) Kirkwood's EZ Pass idea is great and we actually want to and know how to implement it through working with Parking Director Doug Porter and using campus access accounts, their bursar idea is 100 percent impossible, just ask. But, this whole issue is a joke. This is the recycled IUSA crap that comes up every year. Can we not talk about something else?
Gosh. Q: What is your party doing to increase voter turnout? We'll probably bake them a cake or something. Who knows? We'll be around during the next week. You'll see us. By the way, I like your sleeves.
