IU ends season undefeated at Assembly Hall

·

Hoosier fans inside Assembly Hall on Saturday night maintained their usual set of chants and cheers for IU coach Kelvin Sampson, senior guards Errek Suhr and Rod Wilmont, and the rest of the standards usually yelled at home games.

TV cop-out

·

What happened on “Grey’s Anatomy” the other night? I missed it. What dramatically shallow life crises did those witty writers devise for their selfish creations? What ridiculously contrived, unexpected plot twist did the writers pull out of their collective ear on “Lost” this week to keep you coming back? What did perky, self-centered, adorably awkward, calculatedly messy character A, B or C do on “Scrubs” this time that was just so funny, painful or like life that you simply had to analyze it with all your friends?

Buckeyes thwart IU’s tourney hopes

·

A storybook ending just wasn’t in the cards. Playing the night after a convincing victory over Iowa in the Big Ten tournament, the IU women’s basketball team fell to Ohio State 72-60 Friday night.

Hoosiers defeat Iowa, advance in Big Ten tournament

·

INDIANAPOLIS – This time around, the IU women’s basketball team would not allow Iowa’s 3-point shot to beat them. The Hawkeyes attempted 19, but only connected on four in a 67-53 Hoosier win in the opening round of the Big Ten tournament.

IU hoping to make run at Big Ten championship

·

After a loss at Wisconsin to end the regular season, the IU wrestling team is ready to get back on the mat and chase history. The Hoosiers haven’t won a Big Ten title as a team since 1943, and are looking to add to their 13 Big Ten championships March 3-4 at the 2007 Big Ten championships at Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich.

Mr. McPresident

·

In “Finding Herman B Wells,” published Feb. 19, the editorial board laid out its view that either of the presidential candidates, Michael McRobbie or Dr. Ora Pescovitz, would be a good fit for the IU presidency based on their prior achievement and involvement in IU.

Hoosiers to face No. 2 Ohio State in tough road match

·

When Ty Tucker took over as Ohio State men’s tennis coach in the 1999 to 2000 campaign, the Buckeyes had never been to the NCAA Tournament. Eight seasons later, Ohio State has been to seven consecutive NCAA Tournaments, is the defending Big Ten champion after a nine-year reign by Illinois and is the nation’s second-ranked team.

The Complete Moron's Guide to: Belly Dance

If you decide to attend the Blue Lotus Tribe and the Best of Bloomington Belly Dancers performance at 8 p.m. Friday at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, you cannot go in expecting Shakira. Belly dance had its beginnings centuries ago in the Middle East long before “Hips don’t lie.” Below are some terms related to the ancient social dance.

Show up, folks

·

Usually in this space, I give a brief analysis of the game. Not this time. IU will beat Penn State. We all set on that? Good. What I’m going to instruct you all to do is to show up to the game Saturday at 8 p.m.

Herbert seen as man of ‘warmth’

·

“Enormous warmth.” An intriguing way to describe a man so maligned for the things he did – or did not do. But when asked to reflect on departing IU President Adam Herbert’s greatest strengths, University Chancellor Ken Gros Louis said it was Herbert’s ability to connect with people, whether one-on-one or in a group setting, that set him apart from his predecessors.

Dierks Bentley to perform Saturday

·

This Saturday the IU Auditorium will open its doors to something it hasn’t seen in a while: a country act. The Union Board is bringing Dierks Bentley to the auditorium for a 7:30 p.m. show to add a new flavor to its spring events line-up. “It’s been a long time since we’ve had a country artist, if ever, so we decided it would be good for Union Board to bring (one) to IU,” said Adam Soiref, UB concerts director. The last country performer to come to IU was Willie Nelson in December 2004.
