Winters in Indiana can drive any good Hoosier insane. The temperature will rise into the 60s in late November, causing excitement and happiness as the mini heat wave takes a little dreariness out of the day.

Shattering the ceiling

We all knew he had a high ceiling of expectation and potential coming in, but Eric Gordon blew the roof off of Assembly Hall by scoring 33 points and leading IU to a 99-79 win against Tennessee-Chattanooga. If there were any skeptics holding out on the Gordon bandwagon Monday night, they quickly became believers. Even Tennessee-Chattanooga coach John Shulman, who dubbed the game “Eric Gordon Freshman Night,” was left wanting a memento.

Who knew Assembly Hall could get so loud in early November? With the IU men’s basketball team trailing Tennessee-Chattanooga by two points early in the second half, freshman guard Eric Gordon took a pass from sophomore guard Armon Bassett and emphatically dunked the ball with his right hand.

Women's soccer team is NCAA bound

IU women’s soccer coach Mick Lyon said his goal every season is to be playing on his birthday – Nov. 18 – because then his team would be playing in the NCAA Tournament. For the first time in his tenure at IU, one of his team’s might meet that goal.

The walls of IU chemistry professor Richard DiMarchi’s office, though, are lined with images of molecules. To IU’s department chair of biochemical sciences and former Eli Lilly and Company vice president, this is art.

Business workshop to be held this Friday

This Friday, Cook Group Inc. will sponsor a workshop as part of the Indiana Life Sciences Collaboration Conference Series hosted by the Kelley School of Business. The workshop, titled “Biological and Physiological Differences Across the Population: Implications for Research and Development Along the Life Sciences Value Chain,” is the second in a series of four workshops scheduled to take place throughout the academic year.

Professor Raymond Burke demonstrates a product comparison program Saturday afternoon at the Kelly School of Business. It was developed to test which product a shopper would select at a convience store. Burke coined the term “shoppability” to describe this process.

The Customer Interface Laboratory in IU’s Kelley School of Business is a rectangular room tucked away in the corner of the third floor. At first glance, the room seems nondescript, lined with computers and cluttered with students’ posters and filing cabinets.On closer examination, however, technological innovations such as virtual reality screens, liquid crystal display panels and a peripheral vision dome stand out.

Property taxes get ‘significant recommendations’ today

INDIANAPOLIS – The chairman of a bipartisan commission studying Indiana’s property tax woes plans to make “significant recommendations” during Tuesday’s commission meeting – suggestions he said could lead to homeowners’ property tax bills being cut in half.
