Michaelangelo’s private room discovered in Vatican

VATICAN CITY – A 450-year-old receipt has provided proof that Michelangelo kept a private room in St. Peter’s Basilica while working as the pope’s chief architect, Vatican experts said. While going through the basilica archives for an exhibit on the 500th anniversary of the church last year, researchers came across an entry for a key to a chest “in the room in St. Peter’s where Master Michelangelo retires.”

Professor discusses printmaking, digital art work at IUAM

Art professor Edward Bernstein will discuss his work with digital art and printmaking Wednesday at the IU Art Museum. Bernstein, of the Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Arts, has worked with etchings and engravings for more than 30 years.

Thanks to NASA robotics specialist Lisa Nowak, diapers and attempted murder have suddenly become en vogue. Shortly after Nowak was arrested from her 900-mile journey, where she used diapers instead of pulling over, Britney Spears was caught shaving her head in a lavender Stella McCartney diaper.

Student play features music of Foo Fighters

After three years, senior Codey Girten finally saw his musical take the stage of the Buskirk-Chumley Theater last week. “February Stars: The Foosical” is a college love story based on the music of alternative rock band the Foo Fighters. Girten, the director, created the rock musical for his senior project as part of the Individualized Major Program. “There hasn’t been a single part of the process that’s been a downer,” Girten said. The Brewskies, a cover band from Louisville, Ky., performed the songs. The band attracted quite a few hard-core Brewskies fans that came up from Louisville just to watch them perform.

BCT to host 2nd Cinephile indie film festival

The second annual Cinephile Festival of Independent Film & Video will be held at 3 p.m., Feb. 17 at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. The festival consists of mostly short film features by several local filmmakers, many of whom received grants from Cinephile Film Arts to help with production costs.

Real life brought to the stage in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- A sculpture of a bomb-charred motorcycle and auto parts decorates the theater's foyer, and the concession stand lies empty under a layer of dust. Spectators are frisked by policemen, and a notice board announces that an employee has been "caught by the hand of treachery and terrorism," a Baghdad euphemism for a violent death.
