Mayor John Hamilton enforced rules that require encampments to have a permit after 11 p.m. on Thursday night, leading the Bloomington Police Department to dismantle an encampment in Seminary Park. The city had previously paused enforcement of this rule, but it was implemented again in early December 2020.

IU closed a portion of Jordan Avenue for a sewer repair project from Jan. 4 to Feb. 19. North Jordan will be closed from around 10th Street to Third Street. Traffic in the Seventh Street area is also closed, according to an article from the IU libraries website.

The Bloomington Police Department moved people’s tents and other personal items in the public’s right of way from Seminary Park around 2 p.m. Thursday. The right of way extends beyond the roadway and totals 100 feet, per city policy.

The Bloomington Police Department will remove the personal items of people staying in Seminary Park past 11 p.m. Monday and the people will be asked to leave. This is the second eviction in the park in five weeks, despite the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation against the removal of encampments.
