This was passed my way earlier today by our good friend Matt Brady from IU media relations. It's a press release -- which I will copy in its entirety at the end of this post -- anouncing the schedule of the Big Ten/Big East Challenge next spring, in which IU will face West Virginia, Georgetown and South Florida.
IU spokesperson Larry MacIntyre confirmed today that the search for the new director of athletics has been narrowed to "about five" candidates. Reports from our friends at the Herald-Times and elsewhere have suggested that the search process could conclude as early as this week.

The last time I picked up a baseball bat in competition, I was 7 years old. We had all moved past hitting off a tee, but we still weren’t allowed more than one base at a time. So when IU coach Tracy Smith asked earlier in the fall if my fellow beat writer Ryan Gregg and I wanted to manage one of his team’s intrasquad Cream against Crimson fall games, the words “natural fit” came to mind. After all, those who can’t do, coach, right? Maybe not.
