As a recent graduate myself, I know that I was planning on coming to at least two football games next season, and had already asked a few people if they would buy me a student ticket so I could afford to go (journalism major, student loans, you do the math), and had planned on keeping my student ID so I could essentially cheat the system.

The Hoosiers have qualified for the NCAA tourney for the 6th time in the last 7 seasons. They will play in the Central Regional, which will be played at The Warren Golf Course May 20-22. The regional will be hosted by Notre Dame.

Senior Molly Beckwith set a new track record in the 800-meter run, with a time of 2:02.18. Beckwith broke her own track record, set at last year’s Billy Hayes Invitational, by more than .30 seconds. Beckwith’s time is the third-fastest of an American and second-best on the Division I list this outdoor season. It is the second-fastest all-time in Indiana history.

Guy-Marc Michel, a native of Sainte-Marie, Martinique, played at North
Idaho College the past two seasons before signing a national letter of
intent for IU on May 7. The seven-foot-one-inch, 256-pound center
averaged 7.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game as a sophomore for the
Cardinals last season, and he led the Scenic West Athletic Conference in
blocked shots for the second year in a row.

Former NCCA and Compliance veteran Julie Cromer has been hired as the new senior associate athletics director. She takes the position of Mary Ann Rohleder, who is retiring this summer after 17 years. Cromer will join IU in early July.

The 2010 IU Volleyball schedule has just been released. The Hoosiers will play in 4 tournaments, the Georgia Tech Tournament, the IU Adidas Classic, the Niagara/Canisius tournament, the Miami (OH) Tournament. The Hoosiers, and Bloomington, will play host to the IU Adidas Classic.

Senior Katie Liston received IU's Sportsmanship award and is now eligible for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. Sportsmanship honorees must have distinguished themselves through both ethical behavior and sportsmanship. They must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting. One male and one female athlete are chosen for the award at each Big Ten school at the end of every school year.

Sophomore Matt Powless has been named to the All-Academic Team for the second year in a row. The award is presented by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA). This is the 13th time a Hoosiers has received this award since 2001, including Powerless' selection last year. Powless is the 5th wrestler in school history to win this award multiple times.

The women's tennis team will open up NCAA regional tournament play against No. 28 Vanderbilt (13-9) on Friday, May 14. The No. 41 Hoosiers (15-9) are the third seed in the Tennessee Regional, while their opponent holds the number two seed. The winner of this match will move onto to play the winner of the No. 14 Tennessee (16-8) and No. 66 Winthrop (16-8) match.
