Rock Groups
Jon "Bowzer" Bauman, 60, a co-founder of the band Sha Na Na, strikes his famous pose from his playing days with the band in the House chambers at the Indiana Statehouse as he begins his testimony to the House Public Policy Committee on Senate Bill 192 (truth in music advertising) on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008. The bill would prohibit performances that deceptively imply there is an affiliation between the performers and a recording group. In 1983, Bauman left the group, which performed '50s rock songs at Woodstock in 1969 and starred in the 1979 movie, "Grease." Several original members still perform with Sha Na Na, which plays about 100 concerts a year. The committee unanimously passed the bill out of committee and onto a vote on the House floor. Bauman, who often testifies on behalf of similar bills in other states, launched into a few lyrics woven into his testimony to the admiring legislators.
