2010 Brickyard 400

Just like we did for the Indianapolis 500, the IDS will be at the IMS for the whole weekend of racing, but this time for the Brickyard 400.

Alston makes All-Star reserve team

Former Hoosier defender Kevin Alston has been picked for the 2010 MLS All-Star Reserve team. The whole reserve team consists of: Nick Rimando, Kevin Alston, Jonathan Bornstein, Wilman Conde, Heath Pearce, Brad Davis, David Ferreira, Shalrie Joseph, Jeff Larentowicz, Sebastien LeToux, Juan Pablo Angel, Brian Ching, Jaime Moreno. Chappell nominated for Allstate Good Works Team

Per IU: To honor the distinguished group of college football players who stand out for the positive influence they have in their communities, Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced the 112 student-athletes nominated for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team(R). It is the most ever in the 19-year history of the award. Indiana senior quarterback Ben Chappell is a nominee for the 2010 award.

Ex-player and commentator pleads guilty to title-fund charge

A former IU men's basketball player and radio analyst pleaded guilty to a misappropriation of a title fund Thursday. Todd Leary, who most recently worked on the IU Radio Network, was arrested in February moments before the IU-Purdue basketball game. Per terms of the plea agreement in which he entered, Leary will receive a sentence of no more than three years in prison. For more information, check the article in The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette.

Chappell on Unitas Award watch list

IU senior quarterback Ben Chappell already was entering the 2010 season with high expectations for Big Ten play. Apparently, the expectations are high enough to reach the nationwide level. Chappell is on the preseason watch list for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, according to a press release from IUHoosiers.com.

Per IU: A trio of signees have been added to the IU Women's Tennis roster, and will officially join the Hoosier squad this fall for the start of the 2010-11 season.

2010 Official FIFA World Cup Awards

Yesterday FIFA announced their award winners for the Golden Ball (Tournament MVP), Golden Boot (Tournament leading goal scorer), Golden Glove (Best Goalkeeper), Best Young Player Award (Best player 21 years or younger), and the FIFA Fair Play Award (Team with the least yellow and red cards). The winner of the Golden Ball is Uruguay's Diego Forlan. Forlan finished with five goals and an assist, and was one of the most dynamic players of the tournament, scoring a few impressive goals and helping lead Uruguay to their first semi-final appearence in 40 years. The winner of the Golden Boot is Germany's Thomas Muller. The 20 year old Muller finished tied atop the leaderboard with five goals, but his three assists helped give him the edge in the tiebreaker.

Recapping the Third Place match and the World Cup Final

It was a busy and exciting final two days of World Cup action in South Africa. First, on Saturday afternoon, Uruguay took on the young but talented German squad, who seemed a sure lock for the Final's after their dismantling of Argentina in the quarter finals. On a rainy day in Cape Town, it was anyone's game, and there was action at both ends of the field. Germany made numerous changes to the side that lost to Spain in the semi's on Wednesday.

Davis to leave program

Per IU: Indiana sophomore Jasmine Davis has been granted a medical noncounter petition from the NCAA and will not be returning to the women's basketball program for the 2010-11 season. Davis, who is leaving the team due to a continued injury, will receive financial assistance for the upcoming school year.
