IU-Illinois: What we learned

The Hoosiers looked to be headed for an upset early after a kick return for a touchdown by freshman Shane Wynn, but reality quickly set in and IU fell 41-20 to the undefeated Fighting Illini (6-0, 2-0). Before we get to the five things we learned, I leave you here with a new part of my weekly blog post... QUOTE OF THE WEEK: "Good team, tough loss, same story." -- IU Coach Kevin Wilson after the Hoosiers' 41-20 loss to Illinois Saturday afternoon. 1.

I am who I thought I was...a terrible hoops player

I wish I could tell you that I experienced the IU Basketball Media Challenge championship game like fellow IDS writers Kevin Bowen and Justin Albers. I wish I could tell you that as the youngest member of Team [Calbert] Cheaney I was the team MVP. I wish I could tell you that the shower I took when I got home washed away the stench of failure. But I'd be lying. Yes, it appears the lack of basketball talent that accompanies my awkward 6-foot-1 frame has not changed, but that almost didn't matter on Thursday.

IU men's basketball players talk media challenge, season preparations

It isn't likely the IU basketball media earned much respect from the players Thursday afternoon. The IU Basketball Media Challenge allowed media members to showcase their athletic ability (or lack thereof) in various drills and scrimmages, while the players either officiated, kept score or gawked from afar. "It was really cool just seeing people interact with everybody and seeing them do things they might not be comfortable with," said junior guard Jordan Hulls.

Men's soccer loses 3-2 to Louisville after squandering 2-0 lead

Louisville's Kenney Walker's overtime goal in the 94th minute gave IU a 3-2 loss Wednesday night at Jerry Yeagley Field. IU had a 2-0 lead after senior midfielder Alec Purdie scored in the 55th minute. However, Louisville responded with a pair of goals in the 73rd minute to knot the score at a 2-2 margin. The Hoosiers wasted no time getting on the board. Eleven minutes in, senior defender Tommy Meyer sent in a cross from the left side, connecting with freshman forward Eriq Zavaleta.

IU Athletics wants Students to buy Basketball tickets by Oct. 15

Below is a release from the IU Athletics Department about students purchasing season tickets by October 15: With projections showing an increase in student season ticket sales for the men's basketball season, students who have not purchased their season ticket are encouraged to do so by October 15 to guarantee the best seating for the upcoming campaign. "Our goal is to get the program back in the top 10 nationally in overall attendance and the reason for that is our student support," said IU Coach Tom Crean.

Northwestern vs. IU

The Hoosiers may be coming off their worst loss of the season (a 4-1 loss against the Illini), as Coach Mick Lyon said his team "stopped competing." However, the Hoosiers' second match in their Illinois road trip may come against a favorable opponent as the Wildcats are last in every significant* offensive category in the Big Ten. I spoke with the women's soccer reporter from The Daily Northwestern, Callie Counsellor. "One of the players on the team (Sami Schrakamp I believe) mentioned that too much pressure has been put on the forwards to score, instead of making it a team effort," Counsellor said.

IU-Penn State: What we learned

It was a much better effort from the Hoosiers than the one we saw last week at North Texas, but IU didn't have quite enough offense and lost 16-10 to Penn State Saturday afternoon. This is another one of those games that's kind of tough to swallow because IU had its chances.

IU-N. Texas: What we learned

If you predicted the Hoosiers to start 1-3 this season, you're a smarter man than me. This one was just terrible. If you didn't watch it on ESPN3, IU fell behind 21-0 at halftime, couldn't move the ball to save its life.

Kevin Bush leaves IU football team

Junior defensive end Kevin Bush has left the team, IU Coach Kevin Wilson confirmed last night after IU's loss to North Texas. Bush primarily played special teams for the Hoosiers and was not expected to see his role increase this season. Wilson said Bush cited a loss of passion for the game as his main reason for quitting.
