What is this new "diamond" formation?

You might have noticed something a little different about IU's run game Saturday. Besides rushing for over 230 yards against one of the best teams in the Big Ten (and the country), Coach Kevin Wilson and his Co-Offensive Coordinators Rod Smith and Kevin Johns unveiled the "diamond" formation that Wilson used occasionally at Oklahoma. If you didn't see the game on ESPN2 Saturday, you might have trouble picturing this.

Indy 500 champ Dan Wheldon dies in race accident

Indy 500 champion Dan Wheldon has died after a crash in today's IndyCar race in Las Vegas. He was honored by IndyCar drivers with a tribute lap Following is the statement from INDYCAR CEO Randy Bernard: "INDYCAR is sad to announce that Dan Wheldon passed away from unsurvivable injuries.

Hoosier Spotlight: Cody Zeller

Overview: Zeller is a 6-11, 230 pound forward from Washington, Ind. In Zeller's senior season at Washington High School, he was named Mr. Basketball in Indiana en route to leading the Hatchets to the class 3A state title.

Raftery to host, White, Gordon to be at Hoosier Hysteria

Onions! With a kiss! Send it in! Those are just a few of the many phrases coined by CBS commentator Bill Raftery, who IU Athletics announced will be hosting the men's portion of Hoosier Hysteria on Saturday Night. The animated color commentator is currently in his 28th year with CBS and figures to add a little excitement to the festivities at Assembly Hall. Also in attendance will be former IU men's basketball's last two All-Americans, Eric Gordon and D.J.

Crean speaks about allegations

IU men's basketball coach Tom Crean spoke to the media on Wednesday afternoon about the secondary recruiting violation reports that surfaced last night. In case you missed it, Crean made contact with five-star recruit Gary Harris on October 6, which was a day outside the evaluation period scheduled for October 7.

Secondary Recruiting Violation: Rapid Reaction

It's been a tough two days for IU basketball. A day after Maurice Creek underwent season-ending surgery on his torn Achilles, IU Athletics released a copy of the secondary violations report that said Crean had illegal contact with an unnamed 2012 recruit. The statement said that Crean had been mistakenly told by IU Assistant Coach Tim Buckley that he was a day within the contact period for prospective recruits.

Crean wants Knight back in Bloomington

The last National Champion banner that hangs up in Assembly Hall reads '1987.' As Tom Crean enters his fourth season at the helm of the IU men's basketball team, the 2011-2012 season marks the 25th anniversary for the championship team. Matt Norlander of CBS Sports wrote that IU is scheduled to hold a ceremony honoring the 87' team sometime this season and that Crean wants head coach Bob Knight back in Bloomington. In Norlander's article, Crean says: "I would hope Bob Knight knows he has a 365-day invitation to come back," Crean said by phone.

Maurice Creek injury: Rapid Reaction

With the announcement of junior guard Maurice Creek's likely season-ending Achilles injury, the IU basketball team learned that it will once again be without their star shooting guard for an indefinite period of time. It's hard not to feel bad for a kid that just had his third major surgery in the last 22 months.

Creek injures left Achilles, likely out indefinitely

IU Athletics released a statement this afternoon announcing that junior guard Maurice Creek suffered an injury away from the basketball court and will be out in definitely. The official statement read as following: CREEK SUFFERS INJURY TO LEFT ACHILLES: Indiana University men's basketball coach Tom Crean has announced that junior guard Maurice Creek underwent surgery today to repair a torn Achilles tendon he suffered away from the basketball court in his left leg.

Wynn named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

For the second time this season, a Hoosier earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. Running back D'Angelo Roberts collected the award after a 38-21 win against South Carolina State, and wide receiver Shane Wynn won the award after Saturday's 41-20 loss to Illinois. Wynn likely earned the honor on the first play of the game, when he returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. It was the first return for a touchdown for IU since 2009 and was the second longest in team history.
