The last National Champion banner that hangs up in Assembly Hall reads '1987.' As Tom Crean enters his fourth season at the helm of the IU men's basketball team, the 2011-2012 season marks the 25th anniversary for the championship team.
Matt Norlander of CBS Sports wrote that IU is scheduled to hold a ceremony honoring the 87' team sometime this season and that Crean wants head coach Bob Knight back in Bloomington.
In Norlander's article, Crean says:
"I would hope Bob Knight knows he has a 365-day invitation to come back," Crean said by phone. "For him to come back, that's totally up to him. I wouldn't hesitate in welcoming him back -- there's no question about that. And if we knew he was coming back, I'd be running out there opening the doors."
