IU men's basketball coach Tom Crean spoke to the media on Wednesday afternoon about the secondary recruiting violation reports that surfaced last night.

In case you missed it, Crean made contact with five-star recruit Gary Harris on October 6, which was a day outside the evaluation period scheduled for October 7. Crean said that Assistant Coach Tim Buckley and himself were both at fault and that it was a simple misunderstanding that they self-reported to IU compliance within 15 minutes of realizing the violation.

Crean said more of the same on Wednesday.

"I made an inadvertent mistake the other day recruiting," Crean said. "We had a miscommunication on the dates and did it knowingly. I thought I was doing it right and 15 minutes later, found out that I wasn't. As soon as that happened or as soon as I didn't drive myself off the rode out of anger at myself, we called it in immediately and handled it with the people that needed to know."

Crean said that although he was cited for his contact with one recruit, he had planned on making multiple recruiting trips that day.

"I had other things planned that day, all thinking we were still in a contact period and like I said, it was an inadvertent mistake," Crean said. "I'm glad that we caught it when we did but it's my responsibility and we've answered it. That's as much as I can really say about it because a recruit was involved."

Harris is still expected to make his official visit to IU this weekend and be in attendance for Hoosier Hysteria on Saturday night.
