Indiana field hockey enters Saturday’s matchup with No. 13 Michigan after a weekend in which the Hoosiers split games against No. 5 Iowa.
The No. 18 Hoosiers defeated Iowa 3-1 Friday for their first ranked win of the season before falling 2-1 in a penalty shootout Sunday. Indiana is now 5-3 overall and 1-0 in Big Ten play.
Now, Indiana will look to its next top matchup when it hosts Michigan at noon Saturday at Deborah Tobias Field in Bloomington.
The Hoosiers have won five of their last six games, with their only loss coming in Sunday’s shootout. During that stretch, Indiana has outscored opponents 22-5.
Sophomore forward/midfielder Molly Stutte and sophomore forward Celia Arroyo Cabezudo have led the Hoosiers offensively. Stutte has seven goals and six assists through eight games, while Arroyo Cabezudo has six goals and three assists.
The Wolverines enter Saturday 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the Big Ten. The Wolverines opened conference play with a 2-1 win against Michigan State before defeating Central Michigan University 5-0 Sunday.
Michigan head coach Kristi Gannon Fisher is in her second season leading the program. Fisher was named head coach in April 2025 after spending nine seasons on the program’s coaching staff. She previously played at Michigan from 2000-03 and was a two-time NFHCA First Team All-American and the 2003 Big Ten Player of the Year.
The Wolverines have been one of the Big Ten’s strongest programs in recent seasons. The Wolverines won the Big Ten Tournament in 2022 and 2024, with the 2024 team finishing 15-5 and reaching the NCAA Tournament. Michigan also reached the NCAA championship game in spring 2021 season after going 15-3 and winning both the Big Ten regular-season and tournament titles.
Senior forward Juliette Manzur recorded a hat trick in Michigan’s win against Central Michigan. Michigan has several players contributing to its scoring attack. Manzur, junior back Eva Bernardy and senior forward Esmée de Willigen have each scored three goals through seven games. Bernardy and Manzur have also recorded two assists apiece, giving the Wolverines multiple offensive options Indiana must account for.
The teams last met in 2025, when Michigan defeated Indiana 3-1. Michigan has controlled the series since the two programs first met in 2000. The Hoosiers have won five games and lost 25 against the Wolverines. Indiana’s last win against Michigan came in 2024 via a 2-1 victory. Before that, the Hoosiers had not defeated Michigan since 2016.
Both Indiana and Michigan enter Saturday playing some of their best field hockey of the season. Indiana has won five of its last six games, while Michigan has won four of its last five. The Hoosiers will face No. 13 Michigan at noon Saturday at Deborah Tobias Field. The game will be streamed on Big Ten+.
