Indiana University placed its chapter of Tau Epsilon Phi on cease and desist for hazing Friday, according to Indiana University's Office of Student Life. All organizational activities are suspended until further notice.
The university defines cease and desists as temporary orders placed on certain or all of an organization’s operations when there is an urgent threat or a continuous investigation.
The chapter entered into a voluntary resolution agreement with the Office of Student Conduct on Nov. 11. The resolution was supposed to last until Jan.16, 2026, and was initiated to resolve a matter relating to alcohol and risk management.
The fraternity’s Gamma Tau chapter was founded at IU in 2017.
TEP is the fourth fraternity to be put on cease and desist thus far this semester.
Phi Kappa Psi’s activities were suspended until further notice Oct. 21 due to hazing. Alpha Epsilon Pi was put on cease and desist Oct. 24 due to hazing. Beta Chi Theta was the third fraternity put on cease and desist this semester Nov. 4 due to hazing, non-compliance with university directives and interference with the university conduct process.
The Palestine Solidarity Committee was also put on cease and desist Aug. 15 by the university for disorderly conduct.
TEP was last put on cease and desist February 2024, also for hazing.
