The Indiana University chapter of the Chi Phi fraternity was placed on cease and desist Tuesday for hazing, according to the Office of Student Life.
Chi Phi is now the fifth fraternity on cease and desist this semester, joining Alpha Epsilon Pi, Beta Chi Theta, Phi Kappa Psi and Tau Epsilon Pi.
Chi Phi’s addition to the list comes less than a week after Vice Chancellor for Student Life Lamar Hylton sent a letter to the IU Interfraternity Council, barring 27 fraternities from hosting social events due to alleged hazing incidents.
Hylton’s letter prevents fraternities in the IFC from hosting social, philanthropic and brotherhood events. Events such as tailgates, group activities, new member education and events with alcohol are also prohibited.
