A recount conducted by the Indiana Recount Commission confirmed Republican Dave Hall’s victory Dec. 20 in the Indiana House District 62 race, where he ran against Democrat Penny Githens, according to the B Square Bulletin.

The commission met Tuesday morning to announce the final tally: 13,037 votes for Hall and 12,963 votes for Githens, with a margin of 74 votes.

Monroe County Democratic Party Chair David Henry filed paperwork at the Indiana Election Division in Indianapolis to initiate the recount Nov. 28. Before the recount, Hall won by 40 votes, under 1% of the vote.

Election officials in the three counties located in District 62 – Monroe, Jackson and Brown – gathered and counted all the ballots again for both Hall and Githens.

The Monroe County Democratic Party also filed for an election recount for the Benton Township board member race after Republican Jake Dodds defeated incumbent Democrat Hans Kelson by four votes. The recount for this race had to wait because Monroe County’s ballots were impounded for the state house election recount.
