African American Arts Institute presents African American Dance Company spring concert

The African American Dance Company’s 48th annual spring concert “Black Dance 2.0 — Return to Humanity” will take place from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. 

Directed by Professor of Practice Baba Stafford C. Berry Jr., the African American Dance Company is committed to sharing movement traditions from Africa, the Diaspora and African American culture, according to the American Arts Institute

Since its founding in 1974, the African American Dance Company has performed throughout Indiana, in New York City and internationally in China, Cuba and Jamaica.

The company’s repertoire includes African dance styles, modern, contemporary, hip-hop and jazz.

The African American Dance Company is a for-credit course offered through IU’s Department of African American and African Diaspora Studies. It is one of three performing ensembles led by the African American Arts Institute at IU.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Student tickets are $15 and $25 for general admission. 

If you can’t make it to the theater, virtual tickets are available for $15. 

For those attending the event in-person, vaccine verification or a negative COVID-19 test result within 48 hours is required upon entrance at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. Although masks are optional, they are strongly encouraged to be worn at the theater.
