After a full year without fans allowed at athletic events, IU announced it will welcome back full capacity crowds for the 2021 fall season Friday.

The announcement was made in a press release, specifying that Memorial Stadium will be at full capacity for the 2021 football season

“This is one of the most exciting days for our department and for me personally as we announce our plans to welcome our fans back this fall,” IU Athletic Director Scott Dolson said in the release. “I cannot thank our fans enough for their patience and understanding while we have followed the advice of the medical professionals to protect the safety and health of everyone during the pandemic.”

The release also states full capacity crowds are expected to be allowed at all fall athletic events.

The decision was made following the guidance of the IU Restart Committee, which issued a recommendation on May 26 to allow for in-person campus activities to resume at a normal level following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Guidelines for specific COVID-19 safety protocols will be finalized at a later date.
