IU Auditorium and Union Board will present Step Afrika! in an outdoor performance at Kinsey Hollow at 6 p.m. April 23. The event is free and open to IU students, faculty and staff, according to the IU Auditorium event web page.

IU student dance groups UNi.SON, Di:verse Dance Crew and HooSher Bhangra will open for the live performance, according to the web page.

Step Afrika! is a professional company that focuses on the tradition of stepping. Founded in 1994, Step Afrika! is now one of the top African-American dance companies in the United States, according to the web page.

The company combines dance styles of historical African American fraternities and sororities, traditional West and Southern dances and contemporary dance into a cohesive experience, according to the web page.

“Step Afrika! blends traditional and modern dance with storytelling, humor, and audience participation to bring a unique and high-energy experience to every place they perform,” the web page said.

Tickets for the free event are required and can be reserved on IU ticketmaster.
