Weekend water balloon assaults make a splash

Two separate incidents left two innocent pedestrians in the same condition – soaked.

The Bloomington Police Department responded to the water balloon assaults over the holiday weekend.

The first incident occurred around 9 p.m. Saturday night. A pedestrian was walking outside of The Chocolate Moose on South Walnut Street when they were struck with a water balloon.

BPD Sgt. Shane Rasche said no one was hurt.

Rasche said the police believe the balloon was thrown by children from an apartment window.

Just over 24 hours later, BPD received another report of another water balloon assault Sunday night.

The victim was walking outside of the Motel 6 on North Walnut Street when a car approached him. A man in the backseat of the car threw a water balloon at the pedestrian.

BPD Lt. John Kovach said the victim gave BPD the license plate information, but the information did not match any vehicles.
