Flu season often begins around October, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but cases of the flu have already been reported at the IU Health Center this school year.

The CDC recommends people get the flu vaccine by the end of October. The antibodies that protect against the flu take about two weeks to develop in the body after vaccination.

Students can get a $27 vaccine if they’ve paid the health fee, and students who haven’t can receive one for $38. The cost can be charged to their bursar bill.

People such as employees, retirees under the age of 65 and fellowship recipients covered by an IU medical plan are eligible for a free vaccination. Those who are not can receive the vaccination for $38.
