Briscoe blunt fire results in thousands of dollars in damages

A fire in a Briscoe Quad center building bathroom was reported to the IU Police Department last Thursday.

Cameron Pitman, a resident of the residence hall, and a female friend, of his had been smoking marijuana. It was thrown in the bathroom trashcan, which caught fire.

IUPD Capt. Andy Stephenson said the incident resulted in $7,500 worth of damages, most of which was water damage from the sprinklers that were activated due to the fire and smoke.

Pitman was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. An arson charge was not included in his arrest. In addition, his female friend was not arrested or charged for participation in the incident and police did not release her name.
