Man arrested after attempted escape from custody

Bloomington police arrested 20-year-old Dylan Tsoris who later attempted to escape from custody while his arresting officer filled out paperwork.

Lawrence County police officers, acting as private security for Brothers Bar and Grill, saw Tsoris and another person approach a van in the alley next to Brothers at approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Tsoris smashed the driver side mirror of that van, which prompted security to approach him. Both security officers, while not in uniform, said it was obvious they were security since they had their badges on their persons and were wearing shirts that said police.

When the security officers approached and attempted to speak with the two people, Tsoris ran off while the other male stayed at the scene.

After chasing Tsoris, security found a fake ID on his person and called Bloomington police, who arrived to arrest him. Officers handcuffed Tsoris and took him into jail on charges of public intoxication and illegal consumption. Tsoris was about three times over the legal limit with a blood alcohol content of .253 based on a preliminary test.

While the arresting officer was filling out paperwork, Tsoris attempted to run out of the jail and escape. Police soon caught him and he was processed. BPD added the charge for escaping, a level five felony, to his charges after he attempted to run.
