Local ministry to have pie festival, contest

Wheeler Mission Ministries will have a pie festival Saturday to benefit the Bloomington chapter of the Indianapolis-based organization.

A Slice of Heaven Pie Festival will begin at 11 a.m. and last until 3 p.m. on the Monroe County Courthouse Lawn, 100 W. Kirkwood Ave.

It is $10 to enter a pie in the baking contest, and all entries are due by 11:30 a.m. Categories for the contest are fruit, cream and other. Prizes will be given to the winner of each category, and there will be one grand prize winner.

There will also be a pie-eating contest, at 2 p.m. The contest has a $5 entry fee.

Wheeler Mission Ministries is a non-denominational Christian social services organization, according to its website. It provides goods and services to the poor and homeless in Indiana and has nine locations in the state.
