IU Health president Moore set to retire Nov. 1

Mark Moore, president of the south central region of IU Health Bloomington Hospital, announced his retirement recently, according to a July 7 press release from IU Health.

Moore has been president of the branch since 2002 and will retire November 1. Matthew Bailey, the chief operating officer for the same region of IU Health Bloomington Hospital, will succeed him as the next president.

Moore was highly praised for his leadership during his hospital’s merger with IU Health six years ago, according to the release. He has also been a key member of expanding IU Health Southern Indiana Physicians, which comprised of a dozen members when he started and grew to more than 200 by his retirement.

He has also been a big part of the effort to develop the new IU Health Bloomington regional campus, which is set to open in 2020.

Bailey has been in the hospital industry for more than 30 years, according to the release. He has only been a part of the South Central Region of IU Health Bloomington for a little less than a year, but before that served as the president of IU Health West Hospital for six years.

“I am humbled to lead the region into a new era and I take the responsibility very seriously,” Bailey said in the release.

Lynn Coyne, chairman of the Bloomington Hospital Board of Directors, said in the release Moore will be missed for his experience, leadership, intelligence and commitment to purpose.

“It is hard to imagine how we would have navigated the complex and changing healthcare environment without Mark’s steady hand,” she said in the release. “Our hospital, our community and our region are a far better place because of his integrity, courage and his caring.”
