Student stabbed in lip with pen

A 19-year-old male IU student standing outside McNutt Quad was stabbed in the lip with a pen by unknown assailants, according to an IU Police Department report.

The assault, which took place Oct. 17, was reported to IUPD Nov. 6.

The student said he waited to report the incident because “he was too angry to talk about it,” said IUPD Lieutenant Craig Munroe.

The student reported he was standing outside the south side of McNutt Quad waiting for friends when three people approached him.

A white male walked toward him and chest-bumped him, knocking him to the sidewalk. The student reported the man pulled off the student’s hat and “yelled incoherently”, Munroe said.

The man then pulled out a pen and stabbed the victim on the left side of the upper lip, Munroe said.

The student said he did not recognize the man who stabbed him or the black male and white female who accompanied his assailant.

He reported the second man said “we’re going to find you”. The woman called the student a derogatory name and the three assailants walked away.

IUPD is actively investigating.
