Locals have opportunity to build pumpkin launchers

The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department is looking for participants for the Great Bloomington Pumpkin Launch on Nov. 2.

Entrants can build their own pumpkin launching machine, which must be registered by Oct. 25. Each team can consist of up to six members, and teams must bring six of their own pumpkins to launch, each weighing between five and eight pounds. The entry fee is $15.

The event will take place at noon at the Monroe County Fairgrounds, 5700 W. Airport Road. Spectators can pay $5 per vehicle to watch the launch.

During the launch, there will also be an antique tractor and engine display, face painting, food for sale and children’s activities.
