McRobbie’s approval rate 92 percent, according to online company database

IU President Michael McRobbie rounds out the list of the 10 most popular college presidents, according to Glassdoor, an online database of employee-generated information about the companies for which they work.

According to the data submitted to Glassdoor by University employees, McRobbie boasts a 92 percent approval, the ninth-highest rating among about 50 university presidents and chancellors in the United States.

“On Glassdoor, we ask employees the following question: Do you approve of the way your CEO (president/chancellor, in this case) is leading the company?” Glassdoor Community Expert Scott Dobroski said in an email.

Only data submitted between Sept. 10, 2011 and Sept. 9, 2012 was used, and in order for a university president or chancellor to be considered for the report, he or she had to receive at least 20 employee reviews.

Full-time and part-time employees as well as contract employees and interns were eligible to review their universities and presidents in a voluntary survey.

Although it was optional, the survey also gave employees the opportunity to assess compensation, career opportunities, senior management and other factors.

This is the second year Glassdoor has reviewed university presidents as part of its annual University Report Card, Dobroski said.

According to the survey, the reviews are all anonymous and are used to inform job-seekers.
