El Salvador crosses

El Salvador

Members of the Committee for Democracy in Latin America removed seventy-seven white crosses protesting U.S. involvement in El Salvador after a week-long demonstration in Dunn Meadow.

The removal brought about 45 protesters to the meadow for a 25-minute ceremony honoring the 1,000 people murdered in El Salvador's long-running civil war.

"El Salvador is now a country in economic shambles; it is politically polarized," U.S. Re. Frank McCloskey, D-Ind., wrote in a statement, according to an IDS article. "Reliance on U.S. military aid will only serve to prolong the suffering in El Salvador."
