HOBART, Ind. – Police in northern Indiana said they shot and killed a man who unexpectedly left his home after a two-hour standoff and who had pointed a handgun at an officer.
The 34-year-old Hobart man was fatally shot by Hobart police late Friday night.
Lt. Steve Houck said police were called to a home with a report of a suicidal person. Officers determined that the man was alone in the home and upset over work-related issues.
Police negotiators had been speaking to the man for about two hours when he unexpectedly left the house and pointed a handgun at a Lake County tactical officer, prompting police to open fire.
Indiana State Police are investigating the shooting.
