Former police chief indicted on misconduct charges

PETERSBURG, Ind. – A grand jury has indicted Petersburg’s former police chief and his girlfriend on charges stemming from the use of the police department’s computer to illegally obtain prescription pain medication.

Thirty-eight-year-old Joe Hill and his 33-year-old girlfriend, Andrea R. Hoffman, were indicted Thursday by a Pike County grand jury in the city about 35 miles northeast of Evansville.

Hill, who resigned Feb. 16, was indicted on two counts of official misconduct and one count of obstruction of justice. Hoffman was indicted for burglary and 10 counts of unlawful acts.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports that the indictments stem from an Indiana State Police investigation into allegations that Hill allowed Hoffman to use the police department’s computer to illegally obtain prescription pain medication online.
