City council unanimously approves budget

The Bloomington Common Council Wednesday night approved a $50.5 million budget for 2004.\n"I believe this to be a very strong budget," controller Tom Guevara said. \nThe budget includes investments for sidewalks, money toward the Jack Hopkins social service fund, community playground upgrades and added money for alternate transit.\nAdditional funding was also allocated for three new firefighters and new equipment for the fire department. \nMany council members said they were pleased with the budget, especially with the current economic situation.\nDistrict IV Rep. Dave Rollo raised concerns about the amount of funding toward the Jack Hopkins social service fund and the lack of funds toward green space in Bloomington. \nOverall, the nine members of the council praised Bloomington employees for all their hard work and dedication to the city.\n"I think we've got a good, strong budget," said District I Rep.
