Men's golf team announces signing\nOn Tuesday, the IU Men's Golf team began making strides in their rise to the top of the Big Ten. \nSouthampton, England, native David Butwell signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf for the Hoosiers in the fall of 2003. \n"We are extremely happy to have David as part of our family," coach Mike Mayer said. "We feel that he will bring a lot to the program both athletically and academically. He has a tremendous amount of tournament experience and is coming to an environment and climate that will be conducive in making him a stronger golfer." \nButwell was recently selected to represent England in International competition which is a top honor for English schoolboys. Along with that most recent honor, Butwell has carded a 69.9 stroke average in his last 104 events. \nHe placed ninth in the 2002 Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters event and also finished 28th in the McEvoy, both of which are prestigious English tournaments. \nEven though the team did not place higher than fifth during the fall season, Butwell is excited to be a Hoosier in 2003. He said his interest in IU stemmed from him wanting to study business. \n"I'm really excited about coming to Indiana University and look forward to contributing to the future of this golf team," Butwell said. "The new practice facility is fantastic. It's simply awesome, and I can't wait to practice on it. I also look forward to working hard on my studies and hopefully pursue a degree in business. I am just absolutely thrilled right now."\nEven though the 6 foot 1 inch, 175 pound signee has signed, he has yet to visit IU. \n"David is the whole package," Mayer said. "We could not be more happy right now having David a part of our Hoosier family."\nMcNabb won't have surgery\nPHILADELPHIA -- Donovan McNabb might not have surgery on the broken right ankle that could sideline him for the rest of the regular season.\nThe Eagles' quarterback returned to Philadelphia on Thursday with a cast on the ankle after meeting with a specialist in Houston. McNabb will wear the cast until he is examined again in about two weeks.\nLakers say O'Neal won't start Friday\nEL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Shaquille O'Neal won't start Friday against Chicago, and it will be a gametime decision whether the Lakers center plays at all in what would be his season debut.\nO'Neal said he received a shoe support from his doctor Thursday to ease the pressure on his arthritic foot and wore the device at practice.\n"He said everything was OK," O'Neal said.
