Julie Harris, the acclaimed actress who played Emily Dickinson, dragged a director friend to the theater. This particular friend, despite his career, hated sitting through plays. But on this occasion, the play was a stunning adaptation of a Dickens novel. When it was over, Harris's friend turned to her and said, "Can we see it again, Julie?"

Rich people shouldn't get a break

Fugitive billionaire Marc Rich went out and bought himself a pardon, and the Republicans are going ballistic in Washington D.C. Maybe I'm being too harsh. Maybe Rich's ex-wife, Denise, didn't go up to Bill Clinton and give him $450,000 for his library in exchange for a pardon. But what we know for sure is Rich bought access to the presidential pardon process.

It is 6:45 on a Monday morning. I am rudely awakened by my annoying alarm playing the same old song of 8 o'clock class misery. Somehow I drag myself out of bed, board the Stadium Express and begin my hour and 15 minutes of macro-economics hell.

After Seth Korona died earlier this month, the IU Police Department began a massive search into the events that ultimately resulted in the freshman's death. Police visited with friends, family and members of the Theta Chi fraternity where Korona had attended a party the Saturday before his untimely death.

IU swimmers sputter in Day 1

IU coach Kris Kirchner came into the Big Ten Championships with high hopes that his team would swim well. "I would like to come out of there with everybody swimming fast, at their best, and scoring their best," Kirchner said before the three-day meet, which began Thursday in Minneapolis. But when the Hoosiers jumped into the pool, his expectations fell short. Most of his hopes were dashed in the preliminaries.

Let the improvement begin. Heading into the season, coach Diane Stephenson said the Hoosiers would approach each opponent with the same mindset -- wanting to win every game. While they fell short of that goal last weekend at North Carolina State, the young squad displayed potential, while notching a 2-3 record.

Team takes to road for second consecutive weekend

The IU baseball team is taking its game on the road for the second consecutive weekend. This time, the Hoosiers will compete in the Winthrop Tournament in Rock Hill, S.C. IU will meet three teams, facing Eastern Kentucky and Wagner Friday and Winthrop Saturday. It will finish the weekend in the consolation or championship game Sunday.

IU looks to rebound in final home game

Fresh off a heartbreaking loss to Miami (Ohio) for the Midwest Collegiate Hockey League conference championship, the hockey team plays host to its final home series of the season against Chicago's Robert Morris College at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday at the Frank Southern Center.

Team hits road for fourth week

For the fourth consecutive week, the women's tennis team will take to the road. Protecting their 7-2 record, the Hoosiers will travel for a clash with Tennessee 11 a.m. Sunday.

The men's tennis team had its four-match winning streak broken last weekend at Minnesota, dropping the team out of the Top 25. But, with a win Monday against Brown, the No. 31 Hoosiers are looking to start a new streak.

Team looking to repeat Big Ten feat

The women's track and field team won't win this year's indoor Big Ten championships with 150 points like it did last year, coach Randy Heisler said. The Hoosiers will likely win more than the one event they did last year, but they won't win the meet by 38 points like last year.

Jenn Brown stepped in for track coach Randy Heisler last week while his wife recovered from a seizure and surgery to remove a brain tumor. In Heisler's absence, Brown guided her teammates to season-best throws at Saturday's Hoosier Hills invite.
