A learning experience

·

For Ariel users across campus, the prospect of a world without e-mail became a frightening reality this month. It was like stepping into a time machine and returning to the days where face-to-face contact and handwritten notes were the only forms of communication -- trying times to say the least.

Cooking school offers vegetarian lessons

·

College students who opt for the vegetarian or vegan life often find themselves tiring of the food available to them. While IU offers some alternatives, many students are left searching for another option.

Great-grandson of famous composer visits for lectures

·

A very distinguished guest will be lecturing at IU this week. Dr. Gottfried H. Wagner, the great-grandson of German operatic composer Richard Wagner and great-great-grandson of the piano virtuoso and composer Franz Liszt, will lecture on several topics, including the controversy surrounding his great-grandfather's operas tonight and Wednesday evening.

Jordan River Forum

Anti-Americanism hits home, too This letter is in response to Edward Delp's Oct. 20 column "Shut up, Europe," in which he berated European nations and newspapers for opposing George W. Bush and being "apathetic" about the war on terror. While obviously confident in America's superiority over the rest of the western world, Delp's facts are just plain wrong.

Living illegally

·

All our lives, we've been taught that anything illegal is wrong. But there's one exception to that rule: illegal immigration.

But isn't it pretty?

·

Ah, fall. The time of year when the leaves begin to turn brilliant shades of yellow and red just before they shrivel up, die and fall to the ground. Fall is also the best season for IU recruiters, as the campus is looking its best. Recently I was lucky enough to happen upon a group of high school students taking a tour of their prospective new home. The following is a re-creation of the conversation that took place:

Between rage and outrage

·

I see George W. Bush as a direct threat to the national security of the United States. His obscenely reckless administration has turned American soldiers into an unprepared international police in an uncharted, unplanned and unnecessary war in the most volatile region of the world. Election day will be a declaration to the world of America's political preference for president.

Fooling enough of the people, enough of the time

·

It is well documented that George Bush believes his ascendancy to office was God's will and that God, in fact, guides his decisions. This worries me. It's more than a stretch to think that God would choose this privileged party boy, undistinguished student and failed (but oh so connected) businessman as His anointed representative on earth. Often when people talk of getting direction from the voices in their heads, they're trying to establish the legal grounds for an insanity plea. Is George merely planning ahead?

Team finds stride as season winds down

·

After a week off following its first victory of the season, the IU men's golf team wrap up its fall season this week at the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge starting today at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore. The Hoosiers, who won the Xavier Invitational two weeks ago on the strength of four top 20 performances and a 21 stroke margin of victory, believe they are playing at the top of their game.

Students might pay for bad advice

·

Academic advisers act the part of a bridge for students to gap the student-institution relationship; offering about 40,000 students great advice is good advice for the University. But bad advice is sometimes prescribed to the tune of thousands of tuition dollars.

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Colts could have taken a strong hold on the AFC South divisional lead Sunday when they faced the second-place Jacksonville Jaguars. Instead, Jacksonville (5-2) now finds itself with a half-game lead following its 27-24 win against the Colts at the RCA Dome.
