Fooling enough of the people, enough of the time

It is well documented that George Bush believes his ascendancy to office was God's will and that God, in fact, guides his decisions. This worries me. It's more than a stretch to think that God would choose this privileged party boy, undistinguished student and failed (but oh so connected) businessman as His anointed representative on earth. Often when people talk of getting direction from the voices in their heads, they're trying to establish the legal grounds for an insanity plea. Is George merely planning ahead? \nDespite his professed faith, I fail to see any reflection of the teachings of Jesus Christ in the policies of his administration. These people don't seem to understand that there is more to being a Christian than saying they love Jesus. They have to walk the talk -- and swaggering doesn't count. My guess is that Bush and company are cynical enough to use religion as they have used the flag: an icon to both hide behind and rally the sheep around (thus making George the commander of sheep). It is clear that the Republican image makers understand that they don't have to fool all the people, as long as they fool enough of them.
