Suicide bomber kills 13 in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- A suicide bomber killed at least 12 other people and injured 17 when he blew himself up Sunday in a downtown Baghdad restaurant frequented by police. The attack came as Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki pledged to soon fill vacancies in his two key security ministries.

Final-round surge not enough for IU

The IU men's golf team finished in a tie for 11th place in the East Regional of the 2006 NCAA Tournament with a final score 287. IU was one of six squads in the 27-team field to shoot under par.

Under legislation passed in California's State Assembly last week, public college officials would have limited ability to censor student-run newspapers. The bill provides protection for college journalists and their free-speech rights. The one piece of content college officials would be able to regulate is hate speech.

'Major Moves' ahead

Gov. Mitch Daniels announced Wednesday the distribution of funds from the lease of the Indiana Toll Road. $58.5 million of the "Major Moves" bankroll will go toward funding five new road construction projects and one preservation project in Monroe County, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation Web site.

Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan spoke at the third annual "Mayor's Ride," declaring May as motorcycle safety and awareness month Sunday at an event on Sixth Street on the square. Kruzan addressed topics such as motorcycle safety and the benefits of motorcycles as fuel efficient vehicles. The actual ride, a luncheon and awards ceremony followed his speech.

Gill Award honors Harvard neuroscientist

The biennial Gill Symposium and Award ceremony will take place today in the Indiana Memorial Union's Alumni Hall. The esteemed Gill Award is given to a neuroscientist whose work has significantly contributed to the field of neuroscience. The day-long symposium features lectures and a keynote speech by the award recipient and attracts lead researchers in the field of neuroscience from all over the country to Bloomington.

Throughout the conflict their objectivity was called into question by many pundits and even their own colleagues. An IU professor and doctoral student, Byungho Park, set out to answer these questions about embedded reporters' objectivity in a recently published study.
